INTRODUCTION
Institute of Gastroenterology sciences and organ transplant is an Autonomous body, under the control of Government of Karnataka, established as per Government Order No. HFW 44 MMC 2016 Dtd. 05.12.2016. It is a registered society in the name of “Institute of Gastroenterology sciences and Organ Transplant” Hon’ble minister for Medical Education, Government of Karnataka is the chairman of the Governing Council.


The Government in its order itself specified to provide free treatment shall be provided for poor patients belonging to SC,ST and BPL card holders coming to the institution for treatment. Since, > 50% of funds are being provided as Grant-in-Aid to this Institute.


Presently, there is no facility in the State for giving advanced treatment for patients suffering from Liver related diseases and Liver Transplant in any Government controlled Superspeciality Hospital as a result of which the Private Hospitals are charging exorbitant fees of Rs. 30-40 lakhs per liver transplantation. Similarly expenses for other treatments are also exorbitant. Therefore, with an intention to provide treatment at affordable cost and at reduced fees for BPL Card holders and free of cost for SC/ST, the Government is desirous of opening a Super Speciality Hospitals for treatment of Gastroenterology and liver related diseases.


Even after obtaining consent as donors from the relatives of brain dead persons, due to lack of facility and personal, several instances of loss of organs for transplantation to needy donees and likewise, loss of liver, kidney, heart and other organs in NIMHANS hospital are happening every day. In this regard the Government can utilize the open space in the premises of SDS TB Hospital near NIMHANS for transplantation of organs in time for the benefit of poor patients. Accordingly, as per the budget proposals of 2016-17, it is proposed to establish a 200 bed Gastroenterology Sciences and Organ Transplantation Institute as an autonomous institution.


The proposed Gastroenterology Sciences and Organ Transplant Institute has been established as per Government Order No. Akuka 180 MMC 2016, Bangalore Dtd. 29.06.2016 duly modifying the existing Nursing School as Institute of Gastroenterology Sciences and Organ Transplant in the Victoria Hospital Campus, Bangalore.


The main objectives are to provide advanced Medicare to the persons suffering from Gastroenterology diseases including Liver Transplantations along with teaching and training in super speciality Post graduate courses i.e., MCh., Surgical Gastroenterology and DM in Medical Gastroenterology along with research in the field of Gastroenterology Sciences.


In order to meet urgent demand, the Government of Karnataka also allotted old nursing school of building, situated in the Victoria Hospital Campus, Bangalore – 560 002 to this Institute. The same is being modified as hospital in name of Institute of Gastroenterology sciences and Organ Transplant at an estimated cost of 10 Crores, steps also have been taken for the procurement of equipments costing around 15 Crores. The Government of Karnataka also sanctioned 170 new posts along with existing posts including Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Non teaching staffs.


The Institute likely to be commissioned within three months. All efforts are being made to shift the Institute w.e.f. April 2019 with the required infrastructure, to enable to provide independent administration and services.
We intend to Mobilize donations from philanthropists, public and private organizations in order to strengthen the Institute in terms of modern infrastructure, Inturn, we can provide advanced Medicare services including Liver Transplantations to the poor and needy patients in the Institute of Gastroenterology Sciences and Organ Transplantation.
